Tips On Choosing Ranges For Your Northern Virginia Home

The kitchen is the centerpiece of the home these days and when making an investment in new kitchen appliances for your Northern Virginia home, these tips can help. When choosing a range for your kitchen, take the time to know what you are looking for before you start shopping. The many styles and choices available today may make the shopping process frustrating if you don't.

  • Measure your space. Before even thinking about ranges and what type to buy, step back and look at your kitchen - measuring tape in hand. Typically, houses built within the last 10 years have space enough to accommodate a standard-size gas or electric range. Standard ranges are typically 30-inches wide, and many older homes may not quite that amount of space. If you are planning a kitchen remodeling project, now is the time to decide how big of a range you intend to buy and incorporate that into the design plans.
  • Frequency of use. For homeowners that use their range as nothing more than storage, standard size and style ranges will be your best option. However, for people who spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking and use their kitchen appliances, consider the many options available when buying a range. Additional features include built-in grills, storage drawers, warming drawers and built-in griddles.
  • Gas or electric. Electric ranges offer convenience, but gas ranges offer more energy-efficient models. Homes that do not have a gas line available, may be limited in their choice of ranges; but, keep in mid though, gas stoves can be converted to operate on propane with a simple tweak.
  • Pick your range surface. Electric ranges offer smooth stovetops or traditional coil burners. If you normally use the range for a long period regularly, the traditional coil burners may be better for you. Smooth stovetops may crack over time with extended periods of use, such as canning or stewing.
