Easy Ways to Keep Your Microwave Spotless
It's no secret that everyday use of your microwave can lead to splatter and boil-overs, leaving your appliance dirty. Looking for simple, painless ways to keep your microwave clean using household items without having to scrub and scrub and scrub? Read on.
Tip #1: The Boiling Water Trick
Fill a microwaveable bowl or container with water, place it in the microwave, and run the microwave on high for at least two to 10 minutes, depending on the level of build-up in your microwave. After the microwave stops, keep the door closed for a few minutes to allow the moisture and steam loosen the build-up. Carefully remove the bowl and then wipe down the inside of the microwave with a moist, warm cloth. Repeat this process until all the build-up is easily removed. After wiping the microwave, dry the inside with a towel to further kill and prevent bacterial growth.
Tip #2: Add Baking Soda to Deodorize
To clean and deodorize your microwave, follow the same process outlined in tip #1, but add a couple teaspoons of baking soda to the container of water. You can also use the hot baking soda water to clean the insides of the microwave.
Tip #3: Add Lemon to Freshen
To grace your microwave with a fresh citrus scent, follow tip #1 but add a few slices of lemon to the container of water. Lime and orange slices will do the trick as well.
Tip #4: Add Vinegar to Deodorize and Freshen
To clean, deodorize, and freshen your microwave all at once, follow tip #1 with 1/4 cup of vinegar and one cup of water.
